094-1117 – Jumpspace

9 Erbe 1117: Jumpspace

Things were surprisingly quiet today. Surprising because, after everything that we had gone through in the past week, suddenly not having a crisis to deal with seemed unreal.

The Stetons, who I thought would have been a significant problem this week, barely left their cabin. Shelly said that Kyris had come out long enough to apologize to her, but she hadn’t been out since. Damaris had come out a couple of times but hadn’t said anything more than was necessary.

Reina Dradon was spending most of her time in the passenger lounge, and Shelly was spending a lot of time talking to her. Reina worked for Ontology Media and was apparently giving Shelly some tips on her live-net programming. I was glad to see them hitting it off, and Shelly was in the best mood she had been in for weeks.

I didn’t see much of Varan or Karran. I ran across them once when I was checking on Engineering and found him giving her a tour of the ship. I talked with them long enough to be polite, then left them alone.

Jami and Saahna were still playing that game from the day before. I asked about it and found out that it was called Hyperjack. It was a card game with both bluffing and deductive mechanics but only worked with an even number of players. Jami had picked it up on Tlianke, but they hadn’t played it until last week. I promised that I’d try to get either Shelly or Varan to join us and try a four-player game.

Outside of that? Not much. I watched a couple of net-dramas I had brought with me, but couldn’t get into most of them. A lot of the Imperium-wide dramas had gone offline in the past month or two. Probably disruption from the fleet movements.

As soon as I thought of that, I felt my stomach tighten. Was this what Doctor Korvusar had been talking about? Yes, it was only entertainment programming, but if that was being disrupted, what would happen next?

I shook my head. I had too much else to worry about. I grabbed another beer and just went back to what I had. Hopefully, my lack of things to watch will be the biggest problem we have this week.
